Let's talk about Adhesion of PSA |Peeling strength
 Specifications

There is no PSA tape with the strongest adhesion, but there is always a tape that works perfectly for your application.

1. What is peeling adhesion?

The strength needs to peel off a tape when it adheres to surfaces properly. In other words, how much force is needed to break the bond. We use stainless steel panel to run the standard test. If your application is plastics, woods, or other materials, ask for extra data on this test could help you to understand adhesion performance to different surface materials.

2. Testing Method

Prepare the tape and make sure it sticks to the testing panel properly. Use the testing machine to help maintain the force and tape at a certain angle:  90° or 180°

90° peel strength
Defining the forces need to peel apart the tape bond to the testing panel at a controlled 90° angle.

180° peel strength
Defining the forces need to peel apart the tape bond to the testing panel at a controlled 180° angle.

Usually measure by kg/in or N/cm.
PSTC-3 / ASTM D3330

The peeling strength plays a major role when evaluating a new case. It relates to the surface energy of bonding material, environmental conditions, dynamic forces, etc. When using adhesive tape as part of the manufacturing process, just don’t forget there are some benefits like:

  • Thermal conductivity
  • UV and chemical resistance
  • Reposition ability
  • Bonding materials to curved surfaces
  • Combination of two materials
